The takeaway
Best window: late May to early September.
April and May are the driest months of the year, but it is still cool and the gardens are only waking up. June to August is the most balanced stretch for both temperature and depth of green. From September rainfall climbs fast: October is the wettest month of the year.
One thing worth noting: in Rize the number of rainy days barely changes from month to month — there are 13 to 16 rainy days in every one of them. What changes is how much water falls. So whichever month you come, come prepared for rain: in summer it is short and heavy, in autumn long and stubborn.
The official 5-day forecast for Çayeli
Mist
On summer mornings the mist rising off the valley floor clears between 08:00 and 10:00. The golden hour for photography; the hour that demands care behind the wheel.
Humidity
Relative humidity stays high all year. In summer 25 °C here can feel like 30 °C; cotton and breathable clothing pays off.
Snow
At 508 m snow is rare and does not settle. On the high plateaus above, though, roads closing between December and March is routine.
Do not let the rain spoil the plan.
There is plenty to do under cloud: a village breakfast, the ground around the tea factory, and Çayeli's famous beans.
